my post has nothing to do with the title XD
WHAT
anyone noticed that ms sandhya is like all Goth and such =P
REALLY
last Wednesday we saw her in a red dress, something different from the usual black in which she ever so faithfully chooses to don daily
another example for my point would be her choice of texts or literature
Edgar Allan Poe's Short Stories
and now
Oscar Wilde's The Canterville Ghost
HOW SO
black symbolises the unknown, the supernatural, and the other vast acolytes of the macarbe.
a stark contrast, aptly produced by the colour red shows the heightened self awareness that she possess. The great emphasis placed on the individual is one of the romantic concerns in which the gothic genre is a derivation from.
edgar allan poe's short stories are amongst the first of books written in that particular genre style. Depicting the genre conventions of involvment of the baroque, extremeties in human emotion, and also the ever present focus on the individual. Stories like the masque of the red death, fall of the house of usher, are perfect examples of reads which strongly exemplify these gothic concerns.
Oscar Wilde's writings are part of a movement called the decadent movement. This movement, is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, and is another derivation from the romantic movement. It strongly magnifies the importance of the individual on the overall. In Oscar Wilde's writings, the stressed human emotions and his/her whims are shown to the extremes. In his other book 'The portrait of Dorian Gray' the protagonist is a decadent one. Living a flamboyant and carefree life, fulfilling his desiderata without any boundaries, be it physical or mental. He has overcome any physical deterioration through a painting, which ages and dies despite him being alive and well. This might very well be an idea borrowed from Edgar Allan Poe's The Oval Portrait (Life in Death)
SO WHAT
as we can see from her dressing styles, her teaching tools and also her text choices, we can conclude that Ms Sandhya Perryn Singh, does indeed lean towards the gothic subculture. Her faith towards the colour black, the constant return to such a genre of text, have shown that she could very well be one of the anti-establishment, idividualist, creatures of the night in which society has termed, goths
